From the first page to the last I was captivated by this story. The voice was refreshingly unique! The love story between Charlie and William was just beautiful and I sobbed at the end. I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt like it was a bit incomplete. This is only my opinion but I felt like there should be an epilogue or something just to give this beautiful book more of a close. (Spoiler coming so don't read more if you don't want it) With Charlie's gift, I would've loved to see him delving more into it later in his future. And maybe I'm just a big sap, but I didn't feel much of a connection to Gabe. I'm glad Charlie lived his life, but it was clear that he and William had that soulmate kind of love, and an epilogue of maybe Charlie reuniting with him would've given my poor heart some closure lol this is still an excellent book though!Product details

This is, as promised, a gripping story that I couldn't put down. The authors write relatable and vulnerable characters that you'd want to be friends with. This book was the perfect way to spend my weekend. I can't wait to read more from these two!
Explore together with Charlie and William the history if homosexual relations and acceptance in Savannah, Georgia. The ghosts that Charlie encounters are all interesting slices of the past that he uses to both learn from and escape living human contact.
This is a really good read. I learned a couple things about gay civil rights, I literally couldn't put it down.
"To Never Walk Alone" is the story of Charlie Rush, a gay teenager who, from an early age, has been able to see and talk with ghosts. Circumstances lead him to William, an Edwardian ghost his own age, with whom he falls in love. While it would give away too much to reveal any more of the plot, I will note that all's well that ends well.
I particularly liked a couple of aspects of this book. First, the gay characters and the straight characters get along well with each other, even in a conservative Southern city. The only character who has a problem with "buggery" gets what he deserves. Second, the gay characters don't pile into bed with each other at every opportunity--or at all, for that matter. Gay life is more than sex. And third, at one point in the story, Charlie checks off a lot of important historical information about the struggle for gay civil rights, information that the young adults for whom the book is intended should learn just as they learn about the fight for African-American civil rights.
This is a good story well told (although, I have to say as a retired editor, the authors could have used a proofreader). I found the climactic scene to be a real pages Turner, as I breathlessly wondered what would happen. I recommend it for its intended audience, and for anyone who is looking for a feel-good gay ghost story. Come to think of it, this might be the one and only story in that genre. Enjoy!
I typically avoid the romance genre but picked this up anyway due to the ghost twist and am super glad I did. The book kept me entertained from the first chapter and I was pleasantly surprised when everything was wrapped up at the end.
Such a wonderful story, and it look a lot of great twists that were unexpected but completely in line with the characters. I love the setting and the authors wove the Savannah's unique history into the plotline, so it was doubly interesting. The main character is sweet and I just loved him — rooted for him throughout the ups and downs as he and his family come to terms with his unique ability to see and talk with ghosts, and the implications that has for his life.
Great pieces of gay rights history woven into the story, and it had just the right amount of suspense to keep me turning the pages. I never knew exactly how the story would end, which is always what you want! I read it in one sitting, it was that good, and I don't think you could ask for much more from a book. Gripping from start to finish and set inside of a rich and complex world that you wish crawl into and live inside, and filled with characters you'd want to call a friend. I'll be reading the sequel if they write one!
If I’m going to be completely honest, even though the book description intrigued me enough to make me want to give the book a shot with an open-mind, I still was a little unsure of what to expect, simply due to the fact that I hadn’t read any of the author’s prior work. So that being said, and now having finished the read, I can definitely say that my prior hesitation was completely unwarranted – and, in fact, “To Never Walk Alone” went way above and beyond my expectations.
The story itself is very unique and original. Admittedly, at first I kind of thought “oh, another story about a man who can communicate with the dead”. I dare not give away any spoilers, but I will say there’s a lot more to it than that and I commend the author for being able to take the idea and concept, and spin it in a very creative direction. The author also has a very well-structured and immersive writing style that compliments and expresses the plot wonderfully. Highly recommend it!
